Christ is Risen, He is Risen Indeed

It’s Resurrection day – David enthusiastically encouraged us as we celebrate to say out loud that ‘Christ has risen, He has risen indeed!’

A particular aspect of Easter Sunday is that it marks the death of death. Jesus’ victory over death changes everything, including death itself. People still die and this is heightened by the present COVID-19 crisis. Death is tragic, it is heart-breaking and distressing, but because of Jesus’ resurrection on that first Easter Sunday it is not the end of the story for those who follow him.

“I am the resurrection and the life”

John 11:25

John 11:21-37 tells the story of Jesus comforting the sisters of his friend Lazarus, who had died. David drew attention to vv. 25-26, and particularly to the question that Jesus asked Martha about life after death.

Do you believe this?

As a Christian today, do you believe that you yourself will live after death?

Life after death – Jesus is the resurrection. As Christians we grieve, but not as other do, because death is not the end. We will rise again.

Life before death – Jesus is the life, and because death is working backwards he breathes new life into us. This is a present reality because Jesus IS the life.

The issue is believing in Jesus – do you believe this?

Christ is risen, He is risen indeed!
